“The 10 Year History of Super Dollfie: 1999”
1999, the year when the angels finally show themselves
We wonder how many of you remember that year. We wonder how many of you were a part of that miraculous moment.
“The First Dolls Party in 1999” was held on February 28, 1999. The dolls that were introduced at the event were “”The Visitors from Another world”, Super Dollfie. It was the introduction of four angels, “Kira”, “Sara”, “Nana”, and “Megu”, later called the first girls.
In a doll world where the 27cm (11inch) Dollfie was still mainstream, the majority of vendors naturally dealt with those 27cm Dollfies.
It’s quite understandable that customers showed various reactions when this ball jointed doll came onto the scene.
This doll was far different from what they were accustomed to.
It did not have painted eyes, but mysterious ones that caught the light, showing various expressions.
It was a doll that changed it’s appearance along with the customers.
It was a doll that, for a moment, made you hesitate to touch it.
What kind of influence did Super Dollfie have on the people looking across at them?
What was the impact that kept the customers in front of the display booth?
Anyway, this was the very beginning of the great history of Super Dollfie.
Then the second Dolls Party in fall 1999 was held on September 26.
It was a fact that the idea of Super Dollfie was not fully understood by the doll fans, but it was also true that Super Dollfie was beginning to engage some people’s hearts and minds.
They just did not understand what to do.
All of VOLKS staff, including Mr. and Mrs. Shigeta, felt sad to see the customers in such bewilderment.
But the following year “that” angel, which has still been the most popular SD even after 9 years, was finally born to this world.
It was 2000, which became a major turning point in the history of Super Dollfie.

It was held at Ikebukuro Sunshine City in Tokyo. The Lost Angels Story “Shino” was really big at the time.
* Display Booth
It was quite different from what it is now, decorated with flowers. It was just dolls sitting on their chairs, but it still caught many people’s attention.
* “The Second Dolls Party in Fall 1999”
The “Doll Customization Contest” started from this Dolpa. We had lots of skillful entries the same as we do now.
